BOONE — Real Estate Sales in the North Carolina High Country have returned to levels not seen in recent years, according to a release from the High Country Association of Realtors.

The increase in sales can be credited in part to low mortgage interest rates, and a resurgence in consumer confidence.  Area realtors sold 2,124 homes in 2016, – 25 percent more than 2015, and a 44.5 percent increase compared with 2014.

Sales increased significantly in September through December with a total of 827 homes. In December alone, local realtors sold a 173 homes totaling $45.6 million.  Prices remained attractive to buyers, with the sales price of the average home in 2016 being $205,000.
